Currently, I am working on a series of sculptures using plastic bags as a medium. This series involves fusing the plastic bags. The purpose of this work is to consider the plastic bag as an astheticized object, and reflect on and transform its original function. This work originated out of my collecting, resusing ,and recycling of various materials including plastic grocery bags.This body of work functions as a critique on recycling, while uncovering connections between man and nature. I sought to make the viewer reflect on the fact that though plastic bags are often reused, they still ultimately end up in a landfill, contributing to pollution. The series is loosely connected to my previous earth works, both centered around the environment and bring about the question of our relationship to nature.
